Running From My Run
Not-so-important thoughts about my upcoming run. . . . With less than a week before my first ever marathon, it suddenly strikes
me that I am less than prepared for this colossal run. As someone who has
seen me today (that's you if you're visiting this page), then you know just
how lazy I have been.
In general, there are only three requirements to get to the starting line
of a marathon:
1. Drive to the event.
2. Walk to the starting line.
3. That's all it takes to get there, though I hear actually running the marathon
is pretty hard.
I believe I have the first two items covered, but during the marathon, I
am worried that my lack of rehearsal (or "training" as real athletes call
it) might actually catch up with me. Apparently, the race organizers expect
you to run for something like 26 miles. Not only that, but unlike the running
log on my site, you can't just pencil in the number of miles you want people
to think you ran.
26.2 miles is a long way. I've never done anything close to that, and I'm
doubting the wisdom of trying. It will be especially hard because I seem
to have slacked off for the last few months. My training was going very well,
but then I decided to revamp the old website (just for you... never forget
that). Consequently, my long distance running has suffered.
So that leaves me with an important decision. Do I:
A) Continue to sit on my butt, write this blog, and leave my cardiovascular
system unequipped for the horrific nightmare of Sunday? or
B) Stop writing immediately, cram some last second miles in before the race,
and get to bed early?
Because I hate to make decisions without someone holding my hand, I think
I will leave it up to you, my one reader. What would you do?
Jeff's moral for the day: Preparation is the key to being prepared.

Thank you to everyone who submitted solutions. The best answer was suggested
by Jeff Lofvers of Orlando, FL. He said: C) drop everything, comb your
beard, and hope someone else finishes the race in your name.
Thank you again to everyone who participated. Double thank you to Jeff Lofvers.
